What We Do
Womenful Voice was born out of the desire to effect lasting change for women and girls in Haiti. Haitian women’s roles and rights have typically been restricted through exposure to strict control of movement and controlling behaviors from their partner or husband. As a result, they are underrepresented in their community and in leadership roles. Despite their ability to lead their families and communities, this inequality holds them back from living a better life because it perpetuates the cycle of gender-based violence and poverty.

By providing Haitian women and girls with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed for a better life, we believe they can become stronger, more confident, autonomous, self-determined, and vocal - someone who can advocate for herself - leading to a happier, more fulfilling life, both personally and professionally.

At Womenful Voice, our programs to empower women and girls in Haiti are guided by the United Nations Global Goals, also known as the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs because a woman who can advocate for herself is more likely to enjoy:
Increased self-esteem and self-worth: When you advocate for yourself, you demonstrate that your needs and opinions matter, which can boost your self-esteem and sense of worth.
Improved communication skills: Advocating for yourself requires strong communication skills, and practicing these skills can help you become a more effective communicator in all areas of your life.
Greater sense of control: When you advocate for yourself, you take control of your life and make decisions that align with your values and goals.
Increased respect from others: When you assert yourself and advocate for your needs, others are more likely to respect you and take you seriously.
More fulfilling relationships: When you advocate for yourself, you set healthy boundaries and communicate your needs clearly, which can lead to more fulfilling and satisfying relationships.
Better career opportunities: Women who advocate for themselves in the workplace are often more likely to be promoted, receive raises, and be taken seriously by their colleagues and superiors.
